Pet Safety

I get a lot of questions about pesticides and how safe the are to use around animals.Especially when used around cats and dogs. I tell most clients to first and foremost "READ ALL OF THE LABEL". Reading the label is the most important thing you can do to protect yourself and your pets. I know most people will read how much to use but there's more to it than that. The label will tell you  proper techniques of application  and how often to apply.

Snail baits and gopher baits are  dangerous to pets because   people don't READ THE LABEL and follow the directions .Plus the fact that these products are concentrates. Do not put out little piles of bait !!!!  Dog and cat can easily find and eat them. One of the best ways I have found to  apply snail bait is a hand held lawn seeder like a whirlybird. Remember its bait made to attract snails. You want to apply it evenly throughout the garden  Try to get the bait into the plants where the little devils live. I like to apply in the evening after I have watered. The snails get to feast all night on the bait when they are most active. You must reapply. Check the LABEL it will tell you how often to reapply and follow the schedule. After a while your snail population will be down to a manageable level and you will only need to apply once a month.
